Important Notes: If you want to re-do the acid etching, Finish it to 800 grit (the patterns will disappear after grinding), and then etching it with Ferric Chloride (mix it with water) the beautiful pattern will visible again.
Damascus steel consists of different types of the steel heated to welding temperatures and mashed together until they form one steel. The billet is then drawn out, cut or folded, the process is repeated again and again, every time doubling the number of the layers, with about 120 true layers.
